I had the opportunity to teach a lesson on this topic last month, and I’m excited to turn that into a series of articles!
We’ll start by exploring what it means to be a daughter of the King. In future articles, we’ll look at some inspiring Biblical figures and how we can strive to follow the examples they left.
What comes to mind when you think about a King’s daughter? Some people might picture a young woman in fancy robes, adorned with silver and gold, perhaps even wearing a crown. Others might envision her as a stunning girl surrounded by her loyal friends, ready for whatever comes her way. Many will picture one of the royals so many are drawn to.
But we're not discussing that kind of daughter. We're focusing on the daughters of the Lord of Lords and the King of Kings. These daughters strive to be like Jesus, their Lord and Master! They’re servants at heart, eager to serve and honor their King!
King of All
We desire to glorify our King because He is the King over all the earth (Psalm 47:7-8; Zechariah 14:9). His throne is forever and ever (Psalm 45:6). And we are His daughters (2 Corinthians 6:18)! We are heirs (Titus 3:7), and if we remain obedient, we will inherit a home in Heaven (1 Peter 1:4).
In all things, let us be “Daughters of the King,” submitting to Him and following Him every day of our lives!
Proverbs 31:10-31:
“A worthy woman who can find? For her price is far above rubies. The heart of her husband trusteth in her, And he shall have no lack of gain. She doeth him good and not evil All the days of her life. She seeketh wool and flax, And worketh willingly with her hands. She is like the merchant-ships; She bringeth her bread from afar. She riseth also while it is yet night, And giveth food to her household, And their task to her maidens. She considereth a field, and buyeth it; With the fruit of her hands she planteth a vineyard. She girdeth her loins with strength, And maketh strong her arms. She perceiveth that her merchandise is profitable: Her lamp goeth not out by night. She layeth her hands to the distaff, And her hands hold the spindle. She stretcheth out her hand to the poor; Yea, she reacheth forth her hands to the needy. She is not afraid of the snow for her household; For all her household are clothed with scarlet. She maketh for herself carpets of tapestry; Her clothing is fine linen and purple. Her husband is known in the gates, When he sitteth among the elders of the land. She maketh linen garments and selleth them, And delivereth girdles unto the merchant. Strength and dignity are her clothing; And she laugheth at the time to come. She openeth her mouth with wisdom; And the law of kindness is on her tongue. She looketh well to the ways of her household, And eateth not the bread of idleness. Her children rise up, and call her blessed; Her husband also, and he praiseth her, saying: Many daughters have done worthily, But thou excellest them all. Grace is deceitful, and beauty is vain; But a woman that feareth Jehovah, she shall be praised. Give her of the fruit of her hands; And let her works praise her in the gates.”
This beautifully illustrates a “Daughter of the King” perspective shared by another daughter of the King—a Queen, a loving wife, and a dedicated mother. She encourages her son to seek a “virtuous woman, for her price is far above rubies” (Prov. 31:10) and reminds him to look for someone who truly fears the Lord (Prov. 31:30).
Why would a mother want that for her son?
Psalm 19:9:
“The fear of Jehovah is clean, enduring for ever: The ordinances of Jehovah are true, and righteous altogether.”
Proverbs 9:10:
“The fear of Jehovah is the beginning of wisdom; And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.”
The fear of the Lord will be her guiding light, leading her to put all things in their rightful place. She will care for her husband, her household, the stranger, and the needy.
With her devotion, God will be exalted, her husband will be praised, and her children will rise and call her blessed.
She is not idle; she toils with her hands. Her husband trusts her completely.
Lemuel’s mother urges her son to seek such qualities in a wife and mother. These are the remarkable qualities of a “Daughter of the King.”
And trust me, people know who we are. They can tell by how we interact day in and day out.
Sometimes, I look around because I sense that someone is observing me. And you know what? They are! The world is paying close attention to us; every moment we share is like a scene unfolding. Strangers, neighbors, co-workers, family members, and friends are tuned in—our lives are on display for everyone to see!
I get some of my best story ideas by simply observing others!
Since we know others are watching us, let’s consider the lessons we will teach. What messages will we send out into the world? What lasting impressions will we leave for those who are searching for direction? Think about the impact we can have on our children, the young ladies in our communities, and not only them but also the older men and young, impressionable men around us. The influence we exert can resonate far beyond our immediate circles!
Do you have a plan? What are you going to dive into? Consider how you can get involved and make a positive impact. Do you love the Lord? Are you studying His Word so you understand what He expects from you? What do you spend the majority of your time on? Social Media? Your phone? Or do you also make time to spend praising God?
As I think of this, I am reminded of what the Psalmist said in Psalm 45:13:
“The king's daughter within the palace is all glorious: Her clothing is inwrought with gold.”
The Lord sees all that makes His daughter special. He wants her to realize that true beauty extends beyond what we can see on the outside; it’s truly about her heart, her character, and what she desires within. After all, superficial beauty doesn’t hold true worth in His eyes. As time passes, she’ll discover just how incredible she is on the inside, which is what matters the most.
Daughters of the King are blessed with many privileges, and with those privileges come important responsibilities.
Over the next few months, we will reflect on several biblical examples: their journeys of faith, patience, and hope, and how, as daughters of the King, these examples can inspire us to serve Him with joy and purpose.
I look forward to continuing our study.
May God bless you!
